Thankfully it was really just the singles and album cover section. I rushed myself at the end because we were going to stupid, expensive graceland. A lot of merch at these museums is kinda cheesy, but stax had a decent array. I definitely don’t go shy in gift stores if I like the stuff in there, but about 50 percent of the time I stick to just the magnet. Also, the merchandise was awesome! I think I spent like literally 200 bucks there. I honestly can’t say exactly what I thought about it because I was so taken aback by the rest of the content I kind of forgot about the film. The film at the beginning I think was pretty good, I know it was probably the best out of all the museums I went to with a film like that. The history displays and memorabilia displays were very good. Very well laid out in a kind of a timeline fashion from origins in church/gospel and country/hillbilly music all the way up to the flashy 70s we all know. I am also a casual musician and my significant other is a slightly less than casual musician and it revived us and inspired us as we have been somewhat jaded/finding ways to be too “busy” or “uninterested” in music.Īs for the quality of the content. ![]() STAX was the best museum I went to in Memphis (those being STAX, Graceland, sun studios and Civil rights museum) and possibly my whole entire trip! I like soul music, but I’m a younger white adult so I don’t have a ton of exposure to it and I have to say I learned so much and took so many pictures just so I could have artists names to look up later as I am always listening to music. Graceland was the worst museum I went to in all of TN (I went to Stax, graceland, sun studios, civil rights museum, country music museum and hall of fame, johhny cash museum, patsy cline museum, willie nelson and friends museum, ripleys believe or not aquarium, marathon village knoxville museum if art, salt and pepper shaker museum, pinball museum, and the eastern tennessee history museum). This museum is amazing! I had to leave a review of it just because I went to this museum and Graceland on the same day and felt sooooooo ripped off at graceland and I really think the content is lacking though I do acknowledge I do have a little more prior interest in the content at STAX but my soul music knowledge is lacking though I like the genre.
